Katie Taylor is an athlete from Ireland who started her career in women’s soccer, later transitioning to boxing at the age of 11. In boxing, she has an orthodox stance and plays in the lightweight category. She also won a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics. On November 26, 2016, she contested her first professional boxing match against Karina Kopińska of Poland, which she won by technical knockout.

Personal trainer
To ensure she stays at the top of the game, Katie follows a grueling training regime. She ensures that she works out twice a day, 6 days a week. The morning workout is reserved for strength training, running, and working with pads. The evening event is reserved for in-ring sparring, technical work and pocket punching. All workouts are performed at high intensity. Their workouts typically last around an hour and a half.
For her running lessons, she goes to the Charlesland track or the Bray Head track. Overall, she tries to vary her workout routine as it keeps her fresh and the workout doesn’t get boring. To make sure her sparring sessions are intense enough, she works out with boys at the gym.Diet-wise, she makes sure to complement her fitness work by eating plenty of protein throughout the day. Her daily meal plan is as follows
- Breakfast – She starts her day with a bowl of porridge with berries and manuka honey.
- Lunch – Lunch consists of chicken and pasta.
- Dinner – Chicken and pasta with some green vegetables.
- Snack – To satisfy her hunger between meals, she relies on yogurt and fruit.

- In addition to boxing and association football, she also played camogie and Gaelic football. Katie used to play for GAA clubs Fergal Ógs and Bray Emmets.
- In 1998 Katie began boxing training and competed in junior boxing competitions.
- Early in her career she was trained at St Fergal’s Boxing Club by her father, who had run out of a former boathouse in Bray.
- Katie entered the officially sanctioned women’s boxing match at the age of 15. Her competitor was Alanna Audley, who was played at the National Stadium in Belfast. She won the match.
- While at school she played with boys teams, St Feargal and Newtown Juniors in the Wicklow and District Schoolboys League.
- In 2012 she published her memoir, My Olympic Dream . She was assisted by sportswriter Johnny Watterson and the book was published by Simon & Schuster.
