Kathryn Adams
Actress Kathryn Adams passed away on October 14, 2016 at a retirement home in Mankato, Minnesota. Her daughter, Kristan Beaumont, made the announcement to The Hollywood Reporter. She was 96 years old. She appeared in titles like “Esmeralda, la gypsy”.
Born on July 15, 1920, in New Ulm, a small town in Minnesota, Kathryn Adams began her career as a radio announcer, after getting a permanent contract at RKO. From there, she began her journey as an actress, first in The Girl from Fifth Avenue , alongside Ginger Rogers .
She was about to star in Esmeralda the Gypsy , opposite Charles Laughton , but was replaced at the last moment, by demands of the male star, by Maureen O’Hara . She was relegated to a very secondary role. Perhaps her career would have taken off, but she never had a similar opportunity again, appearing in discreet films like Longing for Love or The Invisible Woman .
She embodied her most prominent role in Alfred Hitchcock ‘s Sabotage , where she was a young mother. She shortly after she withdrew from the cinema. After divorcing actor Hugh Beaumont , with whom she had three children, she joined the outsider Fred Doty.
