American actress Karen Grassle is known for her portrayal of Caroline Ingalls, the mother of Melissa Gilbert, in the American western drama television series, Little House on the Prairie with Melissa Gilbert , Michael Landon , and others. Grassle has been married three times to date. However, all of her marriages ended in divorce. She was married to Dr. Scott from 1991 to 1997. She was married to James Allen Radford from 1982 to 1987 and has one son. She was married to Leon Russom from 1966 to 1970.

Karen Grassle was born as Karen Trust Grassle on February 25, 1942 in Berkeley, California, USA. She is of White American ethnicity and holds American nationality

Grassle was born to Gene Grassle who ran a gas station and Charlotte Quiner , a restaurant owner. She was known as the miracle child in her family because her mother had four miscarriages before her.

 

Grassle went to Ventura High School and later joined Sophie Newcomb College and the University of California, Berkeley. In 1965, she graduated with two BA degrees, one in Drama and one in English. She later obtained a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Karen Grassle began her career as a professional actress on the stage. She then added television and movies to her career credits in the early ’70s, with appearances on ‘ Love of Life ‘ and ‘ Gunsmoke .’

Grassle auditioned for the role of Caroline Ingalls in the American western drama television series, Little House on the Prairie and won the role. The series ran for nine years, from 1974 to 1983.

 

She then played Kathy, the wife of Edward Hermann in the 1981 American comedy film, Harry’s War alongside Edward Hermann , Geraldine Page , and others.

After the series (LHOTP) ended, Grassle moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico and became the co-founder of the Santa Fe Resource Theater Company. A year later, he moved again to Louisville, Kentucky, where he worked with the company’s actors at Actors Theatre.

In 1994, Grassle appeared in an American semi-biographical western, Wyatt Earp , starring Dennis Quaid , Gene Hackman, and Mark Harmon among others.

 

In 2006, Grassle acted in an American comedy-drama film, Driving Miss Daisy playing Miss Daisy at the Manitoba Theater Center in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

In August 2008, he was signed as a promotional face for Premier Bathrooms, a provider of bathroom products for the elderly and infirm.
