Personal trainer

It wasn’t until after the birth of his twins at age 45 that Karan began to take his fitness goals seriously. At Ranbir Kapoor’s urging, he began training with celebrity trainer Kunal Gir in May 2017. Gir, who has coached celebrities like Rana Daggubati, Tamannaah Bhatia, Ranbir Kapoor and many others, helped the ace director lose 17 kilos in 4 months.

His workouts consisted of 30 to 40 minute workouts, including sweating on the treadmill for 6 minutes 4 times a week. Karan trained with weights for 3 days and spent a day doing an intense cardio pool workout. On days when he couldn’t go to the gym, his trainer offered him alternative exercises that could be done on the go.

Karan completely eliminated carbohydrates and sugar from his diet and followed a ratio of 70% proteins and 30% fats. His diet included organic vegetables, meat, eggs high in omega-3 fatty acids, and higher amounts of fiber to help him lose body fat faster. Additionally, his meals were taken every 3 hours and cooked only in macadamia nut oil. He also ate raw nuts and flaxseed and was allowed to cheat once a week.

  1. The first film Karan ever saw was Roman Holidays at the age of 6 in a theatre.
  2. His father, Yash Johar, planned to include him as an actor in one of his films.
  3. For his role as Kaizad Khambatta in Velvet Bombay (2015), Karan received a signature fee of just 11 rupees.
  4. He had the central idea for his film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, based on the 2004 film Before the Sunset, during a trip to London.
