The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has delivered a serious warning to drivers in the state: eating, drinking, or smoking while driving could now put you behind bars.
According to the agency, these seemingly harmless acts are considered offences under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018, aimed at tackling distracted driving and ensuring safety on the roads.

The announcement was made via the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, April 9, emphasizing the harsh consequences for violators.
“Smoking, drinking, and eating while driving is an offence under the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018,” the statement read.

The penalties? Offenders risk having their vehicles impounded, spending up to three months in prison, or serving six months of community service.
