He came to the fore for the film of dubious taste “Emmanuelle”, and later specialized in the erotic genre that was all the rage at the end of the 70s. The French filmmaker and photographer Just Jaeckin has died this Tuesday at the age of 82, confirms a spokeswoman of the family. “Just Jaeckin, the director of “Emmanuelle”, with Sylvia Kristel died on September 6 in Brittany after a long illness at the age of 82. He was surrounded by his wife Anne, a sculptor, and their daughter Julia, a photographer, “has added his agent in a statement.

Born on August 8, 1940 in Vichy, Just Jaeckin  owned, along with his wife, an art gallery in Paris where they exhibited paintings and sculptures, including his own. He made his film debut in 1974 with the aforementioned Emmanuelle , which became the biggest hit of the year in France. Adaptation of a best-seller by Emmanuelle Arsan , it narrated the sexual adventures in Asia of the young protagonist, played by Sylvia Kristel , who became a celebrity. In Spain it obtained an “S” rating, created at the time for films with violent and erotic content, and caused a great scandal.

Unfortunately,  Just Jaeckin was pigeonholed into the genre. “The film  disturbed and obscured the multifaceted talent” of the photographer, advertising director and sculptor who was before the film, “according to his entourage. He repeated it with  Sylvia Kristel  in Historia de O , a film in the same vein, and in The Lover by Lady Chatterley , adapted from the famous novel by DH Lawrence .

After switching genres with the action-comedy mix Gwendoline ,  Just Jaeckin spent the end of his film career focused on other genres. The short  Elton John: Who Wears These Shoes? and a fragment of the documentary The King of Ads close his filmography.
