Kenyan runner Emmanuel Naibei has won the 6th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
Kenyan runner Emmanuel Naibei has won the 6th edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.
He finished in 2 hours, 11 minutes and 37 seconds to beat roughly 300 other marathoners on Saturday morning.
He claimed the grand prize of $30,000 for the 42km race.
However, this is the fourth time a Kenyan is emerging as the winner of the men’s 42km marathon.
Deresa Geleta of Ethiopia finished second while Demiso Gudeta also of Ethiopia was third.
In the female category, Meseret Dinke, Ethiopians called the shot, winning the first and third slots.

Dinke won the 2019 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City marathon but was dethroned last year by Kenyan Sharon Cherop who set a new course record of 2.31.40
Just like it is in the Men’s category, this is the fourth time an Ethiopian will be winning the female race.
Only 300 elite runners participated in Saturday’s race due to strict COVID-19 protocols
