The chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, AbdulRasheed Bawa said the pieces of jewellery seized from a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has been valued at about N14.460 bn.

Moreso, the chairman while speaking with the House of Representatives on Friday disclosed that the “estimated value” of the forfeited pieces of jewellery to an ad hoc committee of the House probing the status of recovered loot at an investigative hearing.

Members of the committee and the audience at the venue were shocked by the revelation.

The EFCC boss also told the lawmakers that the houses finally forfeited by the Ex-minister have been valued at about $80m.

You will recall that on May 12 the Commission published in its magazine EFCC Alert, that 153 million and 80 houses valued at $80m have been recovered from the former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, who has been living in Britain since leaving office.

However, the EFCC chief was quick to add that bringing the former minister to justice was still far from reality, given the fact that she was out of Nigeria’s jurisdiction, acknowledging the challenges associated with bringing her home to face justice.

“There are several cases surrounding Diezani’s case. I was part of that investigation, and we have done quite a lot. In one of the cases, we recovered $153 million; we have secured the final forfeiture of over 80 properties in Nigeria valued at about $80 million. We have done quite a bit on that.
