The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked reports circulating online about the reasons behind the arrest of popular social media critic, Verydarkman, also known as Martins Otse.

Images shared via the EFCC’s official platforms stamped “FAKE NEWS” across reports from BBC Pidgin and a tweet by broadcaster Oseni Rufai, both of which had claimed that VDM was picked up over cyberstalking allegations based on multiple petitions.

This suggests that the agency has not officially confirmed the details of the arrest or the allegations, and may be calling for caution regarding information not directly released by the commission.

Verydarkman, known for his controversial takes on social issues, was arrested last Friday in Abuja. He is currently in EFCC custody pending the outcome of investigations. His legal team, led by Deji Adeyanju, has stated efforts are ongoing to secure his release.
