JUST IN: ASUU receives full salaries for November
  • FG has paid ASUU’s salary for November while withholding arrears
  • Federal Government continued to hold back the eight-month arrears

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, have been paid in full for the month of November 2022.

However, the Federal Government continued to hold back the eight-month arrears. This information was provided to our correspondent in Abuja on Wednesday during a conversation with a top union member at Bayero University Kano.

“Some of our members have started receiving salaries and I can confirm that we received our full salaries for November. However, the arrears are still withheld.”

Recall that we earlier reported that the Federal Government refused to pay the striking lecturers for the eight months during which the union embarked on strike.

According to The Punch, the lecturers were paid only 18 working days in the month of October a senior member of ASUU who spoke to our correspondent under strict confidence noted.

While speaking with newsmen, he said, “We were only paid for the days after the strike. I received half my salary. Other members are angry right now, they are blaming the NEC for calling off the strike.”

Lecturers across the country have been protesting against this decision by the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, according to recent allegations, there is no end in sight to the impasse between the Federal Government and the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU.

Recall that in October, after Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, intervened, ASUU ended its eight-month strike.

After all talks between the Federal government and ASUU failed, Gbajabiamila mediated a settlement. Within a few days of starting his mediation, Gbajabiamila and the two parties were able to come to an amicable agreement, with the government agreeing to pay the university employees’ unpaid wages for the months they were on strike.

The payment of half salaries by the Federal Government to its members for just 18 working days in the month of October, however, left the Union’s members perplexed at the beginning of November.
