JUNG CHAE-YEON’S CAREER
In January 2015, MBK Entertainment announced plans to launch a new girl group, originally with a strategy to have potential contestants compete in a reality survival show. After the idea was scrapped, however, the company decided to select its members internally, and the final lineup was revealed with seven members, including Seung-hee, Cathy, Eunice, Jenny, Ye-bin, Eun-jin, and Chae. -yeon. se.
DIA released their debut album, Do It Amazing on September 14, 2015 with lead single “Somehow” (왠지; Waenji).
In December 2015, MBK Entertainment announced that Jung had temporarily withdrawn from the group to join the trainee survival program Produce 101, for which she had auditioned and signed contracts before the official launch of DIA. She finished 7th overall with 215,338 votes, making her debut with project group IOI in May 2016. DIA’s second extended play, Spell, was released on September 13, 2016, with lead single “Mr. Potter’. September 18 and 24, 2016 were noted for Jung’s exceptionally busy television work, beginning with the bi-monthly shows Drinking Solo (September 19-20). Her appearance on Hit the Stage with DIA member Eun-jin aired on September 21, 2016, and the variety series premiere Go Go with Mr. Paik aired on September 23, 2016, featuring her alongside from Shinee’s Onew. Combined with the tendency of idol groups to play in each of South Korea’s daily music programs, a writer from Daily Sports noted that a viewer could see Jung’s face practically every day.
Jung joined IOI for their second promotional cycle as a full group, releasing Miss Me? on October 17, 2016, with the first single “Very Very Very”. Music Bank’s October 21, 2016 show marked an incident where, due to scheduling conflicts, she performed on the show twice; once with DIA during their final series of TV performances for “Mr. Potter”, and again with IOI as they started promotions for “Very Very Very”.
In December 2016, Jung starred in the sci-fi web drama 109 Strange Things, along with Choi Tae-Joon. She stars as senior philosophy student Shin Ki-won whose family takes KDI-109, a robot from the future. The drama is set to air on Naver TV Cast in early 2017, with six episodes. She started modeling for Jill Stuart New York in January 2017.
