Following governor Nyesom Wike’s protest warning, a large number of angry youths have stormed the Pleasure Park in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, to protest bad governance in the country.

Some members of the civil society gathered in the venue on Saturday to join other youths across the state to decry the high level of insecurity and hardship ravaging the country, perceived to have been birthed by bad governance.

It was gathered that the Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society, Enefaa George, was also at the protest ground.

No doubt, Nigeria has been plunged into tension following the protest currently taking place in major cities across the country.

The demonstration in some parts of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja and Lagos State turned violent as security operatives fired teargas at protesters.

Like in Lagos, police fired tear gas at protesters that gathered at the Gani Fawehinmi Park to protest; an act the Anthony Adeyinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Sports to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commended operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for their handling of the June 12 protest in the state.

“The people were at Ojota peacefully. The activists were addressing themselves that what they want is a peaceful demonstration but the hoodlums, the miscreants as we all know them wanted to hijack the peaceful demonstration but the police rose to that occasion and made sure the thing was put in order,” he said.
