JULIA SAWALHA BIO

Julia Sawalha is an English actress best known for her role as Saffron Monsoon in the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous. She was born on September 9, 1968 in London, United Kingdom.
She is also known for portraying Junior Gazette editor Lynda Day in Press Gang and Lydia Bennet in Jane Austen’s 1995 television miniseries Pride and Prejudice. Additionally, she played Dorcas Lane in the BBC costume drama Lark Rise to Candleford, Carla Borrego in Jonathan Creek and Jan Ward in the 2014 BBC One mystery Remember Me.

ACTRESS JULIA SAWALHA CAREER

She made her debut in the 1982 BBC miniseries Fame Is the Spur. In 1988, she also had a small role in Inspector Morse on the episode “Last Seen Wearing”. In 1992, she also guest-starred in the episode ‘Parade’ (S2 E4) of Bottom as Veronica Head, a beautiful young waitress at Lamb and Flag.

Similarly, she also starred in the ITV family comedy Second Thinkts and continued with her character, Hannah (Lynda Bellingham’s daughter), in British Comedy Award-winning Faith in the Future (1995-1998). In 1994 she also played Mercy (Merry) Pecksniff in Martin Chuzzlewit’s BBC production.

JULIA SAWALHA ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS

From 1992 to 2012, she also played her straight-laced daughter Saffron Monsoon on the BBC sitcom Absolutely Fabulous alongside Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. Similarly, she also appeared in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice as Lydia Bennet, starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.

Similarly, she voiced Ginger in DreamWorks/Aardman’s Chicken Run. Likewise, she also performed “Dawn the Wise Man” in The Flint Street Nativity on Christmas Eve.

She recently revealed that her body insecurities haunted her for years after decades of ‘unnecessary self-loathing’ and Nadia Sawalha admitted she was considering plastic surgery to get rid of her ‘muffins’ and of her jowls during Thursday’s Loose Women.

Speaking to Mel Geidroyc, the Loose Women panelist, 53, admitted she had changed her mind since saying she didn’t want surgical enhancements at 49. She explained: ‘My theory on this is that you don’t have them (muffin tops and jowls) yet, I said that when I was 49, and now I watch every procedure.

Mel has freely expressed that she feels confident in her body as she rapidly approaches her 50th birthday.
