Juan Jose Otegui
He was considered by theatergoers as one of the greats. Juan José Otegui has died at the age of 85 after ten days in hospital. Retired from the stage in 2010, he asked that after his death there be no tributes, no funeral, no burial.
Born in Oviedo, on March 9, 1936, Juan José Otegui began acting while studying Law, in the theater group at the University of his hometown. In 1961 he began his voyage, concentrating especially on the theater. In the sixties, the director Luis Escobar gave him the opportunity to act in his Eslava theater in “Dulce pájaro de juventud”, 1962 and “La Perrichola”, 1963, among others. participating in renowned productions of titles such as “Luces de Bohemia”, under the direction of Lluís Pascual, with the legendary José María Roderoleading the cast, or “The Foundation”, by Antonio Buero Vallejo. In the 1990s she became a regular at the National Classical Theater Company, for which she appeared in plays such as “Fuenteovejuna”, “La gran sultana” and “La vida es sueño”.
Although he always gave priority to the theater, Juan José Otegui was involved in some thirty feature films, including Del amor y otras solitudes , Murder in the Central Committee , Silent Time and The Hour of the Brave . Pedro Almodóvar was so happy with him after hiring him in 1991 for Tacones lejanos that he would recover him in La flor de mi secreto and Todo sobre mi madre .
