JT Barrett is an American professional football player known for being the most decorated quarterback in Ohio State history. He is a three-time captain in the school’s history. He has set the record with 38 wins and only 6 losses. In 2014, he was one of the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy but after his season was cut short by an ACL injury, he fell back and finished 5th. - During his high school years, he excelled in three sports—basketball, soccer, and track and field.
- On the high school team, he played as a double-threat quarterback. In his sophomore year, he was named the team’s captain.
- His high school football career was cut short in October 2010 after suffering a cruciate ligament tear. However, after recovering from an injury, he was able to join the track team in the spring and won the 100-meter dash at the Iowa Park Relay , recording a personal best of 12.10 seconds.
- After joining Ohio State in 2012, he decided to redshirt as a freshman in 2013, which helped him add another year to his college football career.
- In 2014, he was scheduled to serve as a backup for senior quarterback Braxton Miller. However, he had the opportunity to play as a starter all season as Miller was out through injury.
- In November 2014, he broke his ankle while playing against his team Michigan Wolverines . Because of the injury, he was unable to return to the field for the remainder of the 2014 season’s games. He had to undergo surgery to take care of his broken ankle. The doctors had to put a plate on his ankle during the operation.
- While playing for the Ohio State Buckeyes , he was voted “Conference Freshman of the Week” seven times. He was also named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week nine times.
- He is the only player in Ohio State history to captain the football team for three years.
- He won Ohio State’s Big Ten Thompson Randle El Freshman of the Year award. He was also named Big Ten’s Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year in 2014, 2016 and 2017.
- JT Barrett holds the Ohio State records for most yards in a season (3,851) and most touchdowns in a season (47). He also has the award for most career passes (9,434) for the prestigious college football team.
- At the 2018 NFL Draft , he was not selected by any team. Instead, he was given the opportunity to Attend Indianapolis Colts and the New Orleans Saints rookie mini camps.
- He originally planned to join the Saints’ camp, but later decided to join the Saints’ camp, resulting in him signing a three-year contract with the Saints.
- In October 2015, he was arrested for using aDUI checkpoint and driving a vehicle under the influence. His driver’s license was suspended and he was fined $400. Ohio State also suspended him for one game.
