In 2016, he was featured in the Hollywood Reporter as one of the political pundits who was at the forefront of cable news conversations in the 2016 presidential election. He published a nonfiction book titled Fracture: Barack Obama, the Clintons, and the Divide racial (2016) , based on the recent history of the Democratic Party . From 2017 to 2018, she faced controversy after a series of what The New York Timescalls “homophobic posts on his defunct decade-old blog resurfaced on social media.”

Joy-Ann Reid was born on December 8, 1968 in Brooklyn, New York. She belongs to the American nationality and her ethnicity is African American.
Her father was from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and her mother, a university professor and nutritionist from British Guiana. They met in graduate school at the University of Lowa in Lowa City. His parents divorced after a few years and he returned to the Congo.
She was then raised by her mother alone in Denver, Colorado until she was 17, when her mother passed away from breast cancer. Raid then moved to Flatbush, New York to live with an aunt. Reid graduated from Harvard University in 1991 with a major in film.
