1. At the age of 9 Josh started taking drum lessons. He is also a self-taught guitar and keyboard player.
2. He dropped out of school at the age of 15 and began playing and recording in Los Angeles.
3. In an interview, he described his younger self as someone who would play guitar all day.
4. He joined the band The Bike Thief in 1997, then just an ongoing project of Bob Forrest, former frontman of punk rock band The Strange Monster .
5. While recording one of bike thief Josh, he met the then- red hot chilli guitarist John Frusciante and the two struck up a good relationship and started making music together.
6. From 2006 to 2008 he worked as a touring and session musician for the American soul duo Gnarls Barkley .
7. In 2008 he formed his own band called Dot Hacker which he formed alongside the former Gnarls Barkley members.
8. Although he had played with Red Hot Chili Peppers in the last few legs of their 2007 Stadium Arcadium tour, he officially joined them in the studio in 2009.
