Joshua Aaron Charles, better known as Josh Charles, is an American stage, television, and film actor known for playing the roles of Dan Rydell on Sports Night, Will Gardner on The Good Wife, and Knox Overstreet on Dead Poets Society. He was born to mother Laura Charles and father Allan Charles on September 15, 1971 in Baltimore, Maryland, and grew up there.

Interested in acting fields from a very young age, he began his acting career at the age of nine. He spent his teenage years at the Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Center located in New York. He studied at the Baltimore School of the Arts, but did not receive his diploma. He debuted in the field of screen acting with the John Waters film Hairspray in 1988. He then appeared alongside Robin Williams and Ethan Hawke in Dead Poets Society, which turned out to be an Oscar-winning film. Since then he has appeared in films such as Brief Interviews with Hideous Men, Crossing the Bridge, After Life, Four Brothers, SWAT, Muppets from Space, Pie in the / sky, Threesome and Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. Sports Night, an Emmy Award-winning series, portrayed him as Dan Rydell.
