Born on March 11, 1938, Brooks began as an advertising composer, before making his film debut with the aforementioned film You Light Up Me Life in 1977. For the central theme, he won the Grammy and the Oscar for best song. Later he directed some more films, such as If Ever I See You Again , although he never repeated the great success of his debut.
