The writer and screenwriter Jorge Berlanga, died at dawn on June 9, in Madrid, at the age of 52, as a result of a long liver disease, seven months after his father, the great Luis García Berlanga.

Born in 1959, Jorge Berlanga was the third son of the famous Valencian filmmaker. He studied at the experimental center Estilo, directed by the writer Josefina Aldecoa. At the end of the 1980s, he became a regular journalistic contributor, and was especially successful with the “People and Apart” section of the Abc newspaper.

Jorge Berlanga is the author of the humorous novel “A man in distress”, and was a translator of some novels by Charles Bukowski . He was also the director of the Mostra de Valencia, between 2001 and 2003. He collaborated with his father, in the scripts for Todos a la cárcel and the series Blasco Ibáñez .

In recent years he worked as a columnist and film critic in “La razón”. Considered one of the promoters of the Movida Madrileña with his brother, the musician Carlos Berlanga, he prepares a musical about this phenomenon.

Berlanga’s untimely death has left his wife, Guillermina Royo Vilanova, and their 17-year-old son heartbroken. He is also survived by his mother and his two brothers with whom misfortune struck nine years ago when another of his family died, the aforementioned Carlos Berlanga, also due to liver disease.
