Jon Polito
A veteran actor with more than a hundred credits behind him, moviegoers remember him as a supporting cast in a good handful of Coen brothers’ titles. Jon Polito has died at the age of 65, since 2008 he had been diagnosed with melanoma.
Jon Polito was born in Philadelphia in 1950. Of Italian descent, his love of theater in high school led him to study acting at Villanova University. He would soon take to the Broadway stage, where he had illustrious companions such as Faye Dunaway .
A tireless worker, his baldness and little mustache seem to have made him suitable for a gangster plot in his debut on the small screen, we are talking about the miniseries Crónica de gangsters . Eternal secondary, in the 80s he was already in titles like Death of a Salesman , The Immortals and Critical State . He could boast of having worked with Marlon Brando in The Rookie , and could also be seen opposite Mickey Rourke in Homeboy .
But perhaps his face became popular thanks to the Coen brothers , who first featured him in Death Among the Flowers , a title that was followed by Barton Fink , The Big Leap , The Big Lebowski and The Man Who Wasn’t There . They were small papers, but to which he always knew how to print his good work.
In between and after, the job offers did not stop arriving, which allowed him to work under the orders of Clint Eastwood ( Flags of our Fathers ), Ridley Scott ( American Gangster ) and Tim Burton ( Big Eyes ).
