Career and achievements
After graduation, John Schuck continued his acting career at the Cleveland Play House, Baltimore’s Center Stage. He later joined the American Conservatory Theater where Robert Altman discovered him.
He made his film debut with the role of Captain Walter Kosciuszko ‘Painless Stick’ Waldowski on the hit CBS comedy series MIX in 1970.
He is the first person in Hollywood history to utter the word ‘fuck’ in a major studio movie. She has appeared in many Altman films, including Brewster McCloud , McCabe and Mrs. Miller, and Crooks Like Us .
In 1970, John played the role of Frank Carelli in the fifth episode of season 1 of CBS’s ‘ The Mary Tyler Moore Show , ‘ Keep Your Guard Up .’
Later in 1971, he played the detective sergeant of the San Francisco police. Charles Enright in the hit NBC TV series McMillan & Wife .
John has since appeared in Thieves Like Us, Brewster McCloud, Holy Matrimony, Demon Knight, Dick Tracy, and Star Trek (along with William Shatner , Leonard Nimoy , and Christopher Plummer.)
