John Lafia, American director and screenwriter who was one of the creators of Chucky, the evil doll, died on April 24, 2020, in Los Angeles at the age of 63. “He was a tireless creator and a passionate defender of artists’ rights,” his relatives said in a statement.

Born on April 2, 1957, in Los Angeles, John Lafia began his journey in the art department of films such as  Repo Man  (1984). He debuts as a director with The Blue Iguana , a film noir.

He wrote the screenplay for Muñeco diabolico with Don Mancini . She contributed to the film with the famous line “Do you want to play with me?” and naming Chucky. He also worked as director of the first of its sequels, Muñeco diabólico 2 . Later he continued in the field of terror with titles like Man’s Best Friend .

John Lafia also lavished himself as a musician   on the Los Angeles underground scene during the 1980s. In 1983 he participated in the poetry recital “English as Second Language”, together with the famous Charles Bukowski .
