Shortly after the new chapters of “Doctor in Alaska” were announced, the sad news of the death on January 3, 2019 of John Falsey, one of its creators, came to light at the age of 67. The scriptwriter sustained a head injury after a fall at his home, according to his brother.

Born on November 6 in New Haven, Connecticut, John Henry Falsey graduated with a BA in Arts and a Masters in Creative Writing from the University of Iowa. He began his professional career writing episodes of  The White Shadow , a series about a basketball player, in which he coincided with another screenwriter,  Joshua Brand , with whom he would end up forming a regular tandem. Together they created three shows,  St. Elsewhere, I’ll Fly Away , and  Doctor Alaska , which stood out from the average ’90s series, all too conventional.

In addition, the professional couple produced  Amazing Stories  with  Steven Spielberg , and took care of writing some chapters.

At the time of his death, Falsey was preparing the return of the characters from  Doctor in Alaska , with new chapters in which Dr. Joel Fleischman returns to Alaska for the funeral of an old acquaintance. He is survived by his wife, Julie, and two children.
