He never became the star, but his features are well known to moviegoers. He was involved in numerous titles, almost always in action movies, until his retirement in the 80s. John Crawford died at his residence in Newbury Park on September 21, although the data was released a month later. He was 90 years old.

His real name was Cleve Richardson, and he was born in Colfax, Washington on September 13, 1920. While studying Drama at the University of Washington, a scout for Warner Bros noticed his talent. The boy auditioned for the studio, but was ultimately not hired, so he ended up at RKO, where before becoming an actor, he was doing various menial jobs.

He made his debut in the 1944 drama Thoroughbreds . Little by little, he was cast in small roles, in B-series westerns such as Old Oklahoma Plains and the Republic’s Adventures of Frank and Jesse James . With his career not taking off, he moved to Britain, where he was offered supporting roles in major films such as Carol Reed ‘s The Key and Anthony Asquith ‘s Execution Warrant .

Back in the United States, he was already an established character actor, so they hired him for titles like Solomon and the Queen of Sheba , The Greatest Story Ever Told , The Longest Day , Exodus , The Poseidon Adventure , The Colossus in flames and Harry the enforcer . His television career was very long, although he especially gained notoriety in the United States, as sheriff Ep Bridges, in the series Los Waltons . Crawford was a discreet man, reserved with his private life.
