Born on July 24, 1933, on the island of Crete (Greece), Yannis Anastassakis left for the United States when he was ten years old, when his parents decided to settle in Eddytown (Pennsylvania), where they opened a restaurant. It was his father who decided to Americanize the surname ‘Anastassakis’, turning it into Aniston. He graduated with a degree in Drama from Pennsylvania State University and later served in the US Army in Panama.

Although at one point he considered studying medicine, he decided to follow his initial vocation, acting, and began to appear on stage, in theater productions, until he finally managed to make his Broadway debut, with the musical ‘Little Mary Sunshine’, followed by a montage of ‘Death of a Salesman’. At the end of the 60s, he began to intervene in series such as I, a spy , The Virginian , Mission Impossible and Kojak , starring his great friend Telly Savalas . The latter became the godfather of his daughter, Jennifer Aniston, born of the actor’s marriage to fellow actress Nancy Dow. He ended up divorcing her in 1980 and joining Sherry Rooney, another colleague, with whom he had a son.

In 1980, Aniston joined the never-ending serial Days of Our Lives , where he played Dr. Victor Kiriakis, a dangerous man with ties to the Greek mob. The character became a crowd favorite, and has continued to hang out ever since, despite Aniston having temporarily left him on occasion. He has even died in the series, but later it was discovered that he was still alive. Curiously, it is the series where they hired Joey, one of the characters in Friends , the comedy that made his daughter Jennifer popular.

Although he has almost always remained linked to The Days of Our Lives , John Aniston has had time to participate in other series, such as The West Wing of the White House or Gilmore Girls .
