1. He is the first member of his immediate family to be born in the United States.
2. He began writing poetry at the age of 11. At the same age he began to write songs.
3. He started his rap career with the stage name JayOhVee but changed it to Joey Badass because he felt the media preferred cynical stage names.
4. He co-founded the hip-hop collection Progressive Era or Pro Era with rapper CJ Fly. The other members of the collective are Powers Pleasant and Capital Steez.
5. While at school he wanted to be an actor and had enrolled at Edward R. Murrow High School because of its reputation for working well with aspiring actors. When he turned 15 he started hanging out with rappers more often as he was fascinated by rappers. Over time, he became more involved in rapping than acting.
6. In 2012, his mixtape 1999 was included in the list of the top 40 albums of the year. The list was compiled by the popular magazine Complex.
7. In 2015, he was embroiled in controversy after it was revealed he got into an argument with a security guard and broke his nose during the Falls Music Festival in Australia.
