  1. In 2007, Joe starred for The X Factor but soon retired because he found himself too young to take part in the series. However, in 2009 he auditioned again in Manchester, was selected and ended his journey as the winner of the show’s sixth season on December 13, 2009.
  2. Whitney Houston, who appeared as a guest mentor on The X Factor , was completely impressed with his voice and talent.
  3. Joe McElderry’s first single The Rise became a huge hit and was a contender for UK Christmas number one in 2009. But it lost to Kill in the name of rock group Rage Against the Machine.
  4. He recorded the song, There’s a Place for Us , which was offered to him by Twentieth Century Fox and was written by American singer Carrie Underwood.
