Joe Maddon is an American professional baseball manager for the Chicago Cubs. He began his managerial career in 1993 with California Angeles. He served under managers like Buck Rodgers, Marcel Lachemann and John McNamara, among five managers.

Joe was born on February 8, 1954 in West Hazleton, Pennsylvania as Joseph Joe John Maddon Jr. He was born as the son of Italian father Joe Sr., a plumbing store owner. Her mother was Polish and worked as a waitress at Hazleton. Joe’s original surname was Maddonini but his father dropped that surname to Maddon.

 

Maddon had attended Lafayette College and graduated in 1976. He had been interested in sports since his college days playing baseball and football. In 2010, he received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from Lafayette College. He is also a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity.

Joe started his career as a manager with minor management after deciding to quit playing sports. He was the coach of the Angels from 1994 to 2005. Then in 2005, he landed to manage the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. He served the team under manager Andrew Friedman. in February 2012, he signed the rays with the three years extended.

In 2014, the Chicago Cubs announced the hiring of Maddon and fired manager Rick Renteria. But before he joined the Cubs, rumors of him joining surfaced. In 2015, he recorded his 800th managerial victory over the New York Mets with the Cubs. In addition, he founded the “Respect 90 Foundation”. The organization organizes the charity golf tournament.
