Joan Carroll
She served as a child prodigy in “Appointment in St. Louis,” with Judy Garland, and “The Bells of St. Mary’s,” with Bing Crosby and Ingrid Bergman. Joan Carroll died on November 16, 2016 at her residence in Puerto Vallarta (Mexico), as reported weeks later by Joe Krack, one of her children.
Born on January 18, 1932 in the cinematographic city of Paterson, in New Jersey (which gives the title to Jim Jarmusch ‘s film , and where comedian Lou Costello also came into the world ), Joan Felt, the actress’s real name, was the daughter of an engineer and a pianist.
Almost since he was a baby he received drama classes, so when the family moved to California he made his theater debut, in “The First Baby”, which he performed when he was 4 years old. RKO signed her to the movies, turning her into a secondary of numerous tapes, until she gained some popularity, as the sister of Ginger Rogers in The Way of Roses , by Gregory La Cava .
She was already a teenager when she was the sister of Judy Garland , in Rendezvous in St. Louis , and a troubled teenager Ingrid Bergman initially dislikes , in The Bells of St. Mary’s .
After this last tape, Joan Carroll retired from acting. In 1951 she married James Krack, with whom she had four children, and led a life away from the spotlight. She only appeared in the press on the occasion of her donation of a historic lamp that belonged to her family to a museum in Nevada.
