Jerick Hoffer was born on September 18th ^, 1987 in Portland, Oregon and is the oldest of his 3 siblings. Jerick joined Da Vinci Arts for her high school education and later graduated from Grant High School. Hoffer was raised Catholic even though she was of Russian Jewish descent on her mother’s side. Jerick suffers from narcolepsy, which typically restricts the brain’s ability to regulate sleep-wake cycles.

Jinkx Monsoon befriended Nick Sahoyah and wrote and starred in several Funny or Die webisodes titled Monsoon Season. In this webisode, Jerick started playing ‘Jinkx Monsoon’, who is a domineering, substance-addicted and near-psychotic mother to ‘Kamikaze Monsoon’, who is Nick Sahoya’s character.

Jerick’s drag persona ‘Jinkx Monsoon’ is inspired by his own mother and comedians Lucille Ball, Maria Bamford, Deven Green and also Sarah Silverman. The character’s surname ‘Monsoon’ is derived from the British sitcom character Absolutely Fabulous Edina Monsoon.
