Biography
James Arthur Haslam was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, to Jim and Cynthia Haslam. His father founded the Pilot Oil Corporation in 1958, which later combined with Flying J in 2020 to form Pilot Flying J. He has a younger brother, Bill Haslam, who served as Tennessee’s governor from 2011 to 2019.
While he was at the University of Tennessee, Haslam shared a dorm with Bob Corker, who later became a United States Senator from Tennessee. He’s also a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
Career
Jimmy started working at Pilot Corporation as vice president of sales and operations. The company, based in Knoxville, grew to be one of the largest in the US. In 1996, Jimmy became CEO, and they had 96 travel centers and 50 stores. In 2001, they teamed up with Marathon Ashland Petroleum. In 2008, CVC Capital Partners became part of the company.
In 2008, Jimmy got a share of the Steelers. In 2012, he and his wife Dee bought the Cleveland Browns for $1.05 billion.
Jimmy Haslam is also known for his philanthropic work, serving on boards and receiving awards for his contributions. He co-founded the Haslam Scholars Program for outstanding students at the University of Tennessee.
