He is one of those British actors who has earned his enormous prestige by giving his all in film, theater and television. Jim Broadbent has won the Oscar and the Golden Globe. He appears in numerous blockbusters, in which he considerably raises the acting level.

Born on May 24, 1949 in Great Britain, in Lincoln (Lincolnshire), James ‘Jim’ Broadbent had a twin sister but unfortunately died at birth. The son of artists, both his mother (Doreen Findlay) and his father (Roy Laverick Broadbent) were sculptors. Both also lavished themselves as amateur actors.

He received classes at a Quaker community college, and later studied acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA). By the time he graduated in 1972 his mind was largely on theatre, and he put on numerous productions over the years with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal National Theater companies, before creating his own, the National Theater of Brent, consisting solely of himself and another actor, Patrick Barlow, with whom he embodied various characters, male and female, in each show.

He made his film debut in 1978 with the horror film El grito , by the Polish Jerzy Skolimowski . From that moment on, he lavished himself on television, while in cinema he was competed with by highly prestigious directors such as Terry Gilliam ( The Heroes of Time , Brazil ), Stephen Frears ( Revenge ), Neil Jordan ( Crying Game ) or Mike Newell . ( The Good Father , An Enchanted April ). But he acquired international relevance especially after his meeting with Mike Leigh , who hired him for the first time forLife is sweet , a film with an ironic title about an apparently happy family but full of problems, where Broadbent bordered on the role of a lazy husband, but full of aspirations. The director turned to him again for Topsy-Turvy and more recently to play a geologist in Another Year .

Already fully consecrated, Woody Allen himself claimed him for Bullets on Broadway , and he won the Oscar and the Golden Globe for Best Secondary for Iris (2001) , thanks to his successful work as the husband of the Alzheimer’s-stricken writer Iris Murdoch .

Jim Broadbent married Anastasia Lewis, a successful painter, in 1987. The actor lavishes himself in successful films, as he was the father of the protagonist in Bridget Jones’s Diary and its sequel, the corrupt politician Chief Tweet in Gangs of New York , the manager of the venue where Satine ( Nicole Kidman ) performed in Moulin Rouge , fellow academic at Yale and Indy’s friend in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull , the professor who houses the Pevensie brothers in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe , and another professor, the retired Horace Slughorn, in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince , and the last two installments of the saga.

He doesn’t stop working for a moment, because for example he can be seen as the husband of Margaret Thatcher, in The Iron Lady , along with Meryl Streep .
