Jessica Chastain
A star has been born. When I write these lines, her name is not yet familiar to the moviegoer, but it is a matter of a few months, maybe weeks. The redhead Jessica Chastain has the material of a great actress, it is not for nothing that she is part of the cast of The Tree of Life .
Jessica M. Howard, artistically known as Jessica Chastain –her mother’s last name, which is certainly cooler–, was born in some unspecified place in northern California on March 24, 1977. As a child, she was great at dancing , to the point that at the age of thirteen he joined a troupe in the field. But in addition to dancing, Jessica wanted to act, and she began taking small roles in performances of William Shakespeare ‘s plays . A classmate of hers, after seeing her in “Romeo and Juliet”, encouraged her to have greater ambitions, going to a test for the Juilliard, the famous New York drama school. The result was that she was awarded a Robin Williams Alumni Scholarship.
In 2004, the redheaded and expressive actress with blue eyes made her debut on the small screen. Knowing John Wells made it easier for her to enter the television world, and she had a presence in series such asemergencies ,Veronica Mars and Law & Order: Trial by Jury .
In cinema he made his debut with a leading role inJolene ( Dan Ireland , 2008), an independent film that adapted a story by EL Doctorow , and that follows the sentimental drift of the young woman of the title; her role earned her the best actress award at the Seattle Festival. She followed her booming career with another title outside of the studios, the thriller Stolen Lives (2009), which featured the cast of ‘Mad Man’ television Jon Hamm .
Thus, Chastain carved out the prestige of a powerful actress without having to be in the titles to eat popcorn with which Hollywood bombards us. So they kept calling her directors fleeing from the ordinary. The result is that Chastain’s star has exploded, and 2011 promises to be her big year, with up to seven of her films coming to the screen. As the actress states, she “is crazy. Some movies I made four years ago. I used to tell my poor mother, I’m making a movie with Al Pacino , I’m in a movie with Brad Pitt , and she would tell her friends, and the years would go by, and they wouldn’t be released, and she… I don’t know! you do in Los Angeles, but no movies! Indeed, Terrence Malick has been polishingThe tree of life for years, although the prize for the actress is that the director has called her for a small role in his new film, still without a title.
John Madden has counted on her for the espionage storyThe Debt (2010), where she plays the role of young Rachel, a Mossad agent whose adult-elderly version is played by Helen Mirren ; there she has worked with Sam Worthington , with whom she has met again inThe Fields . And Cannes has surrendered to the feet of the films that he has made in recent times.Take Shelter ( Jeff Nichols ) has won the Critics’ Week award, and The Tree of Life (Terrence Malick) the Palme d’Or jackpot. Both are ambitious films that reflect on the meaning of life, and Chastain’s work adds to its depth.
As if that were not enough, soon we will see it inCoriolanus , an adaptation of Shakespeare’s play by Ralph Fiennes ; in the southern history of women Maids and ladies (The Help) ; and directed by Al Pacino in Wilde Salome , an adaptation of the work by Oscar Wilde .
