Jerry Seinfeld was born on April 29, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York to Kalman Seinfeld ; an Austrian-Jewish sign maker and Betty Seinfeld . Seinfeld grew up in Massapequa, New York.

Seinfeld joined Massapequa High School on Long Island for his preliminary education. When he was 16 years old, he volunteered at Kibbutz Sa’ar, a collective community in Israel. He subsequently attended the State University of New York at Oswego and after his sophomore year transferred to Queens College, the City University of New York, graduating with degrees in communications and theater.
