Jerry Reed
Jerry Reed, singer and actor, died at age 71, on September 1, in Nashville. Apparently, Reed died from complications of pulmonary emphysema, in a hospice home. Tall and blond, in movies he specialized in small roles, almost always as an affable citizen of the South of the United States. He was known as Guitarr Man (The guitar man).
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Jerry Reed Hubbard was already writing and performing his own music when he was in high school. A record company offered him a contract, and he soon began to stand out with songs that became very popular, especially ‘She She Got the Goldmine (I Got the Shaft)’ or ‘The Bird’. He married Priscilla Mitchell, another singer, with whom he had two children.
After developing a great friendship with Burt Reynolds , Jerry Reed made his big screen debut with him playing a small role in the John G. Avildsen comedy Two Cheeks . Reynolds was so pleased with him that he recruited him for his directorial debut: Gator the Confidant . He also teamed up with Reynolds in The Cheeks , where he was ‘The Snowman’, the best friend of ‘the Bandit’, Reynolds’ character, with whom he crossed the roads at full speed pursued by a relentless sheriff. Reed also triumphed with the main song of the soundtrack, ‘East Bound and Down’, written and performed by him. The success of the film led to two sequels: The cheeky ones and the cheeky ones are back. Part 3 .
After this trilogy, Reed was more focused on music than film. Even so, he intervened in titles like Bat 21 and El aguador .
