Jerry Demings is an American politician and former law enforcement officer. He is currently Mayor of Orange County, Florida since 2018. From 2009 to 2018, he previously served as Sheriff of Orange County, Florida. He later served as Chief of the Orlando Police Department and Director of Public Safety for Orange County, Florida.

The political figure was born on June 12, 1959 in Orlando, Florida, United States of America. He is the youngest child of five children of his parents whose names are not available in the media. In addition, his father worked as a taxi driver while his mother, a housewife.

Of his four older siblings, one of his brothers died from heroin addiction. Regarding his education, he graduated from Jones High School in Orlando. After that, he attended Florida State University from where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance. He received his Masters in Business Administration from Everest College. Additionally, the mayor earned a certificate of completion from Harvard University’s JFK School of Government, the FBI National Academy, and the FBI National Executive Institute.

Political career:

Prior to being mayor of Orange County, he worked as an accountant before beginning a career in law enforcement. After being certified by the JC Stone Memorial Police Academy, Demings joined the Orlando Police Department in 1981. He then served as the first African American Chief from 1998 to 2002. From 2002, he was appointed Director of the Orange County Public Safety until 2008.

Subsequently, he ran for County Chief of Law Enforcement for the Democratic candidate for Orange County in 2008. He was re-elected in 2012 and again in 2016. Demings was elected chairman of the Florida Sheriffs Association in July. 2016.

They welcomed three children and currently have five grandchildren. Additionally, his wife is also a political figure and has served as the U.S. Representative for Florida’s 10th Congressional District since 2017. She became the Orlando Police Department’s first female police chief, serving as captain from 2007 to 2011 .
