Jennifer Ehle was born on the 29th of December 1969 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. In a 1973 Broadway revival of A Streetcar Named Desire, Jennifer Ehle’s mother played Blanche DuBois and Jennifer Ehle appeared as a toddler. She grew up in both UK and US and attended several schools including Interlochen Arts Academy. However, she spent most of her childhood in Asheville, North Carolina. She also had her drama training at the North Carolina School of the Arts, and the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Career
Jennifer Ehle made her West End debut as Elmire in the 1991 film, Tartuffe, and her role earned her second prize at the Ian Charleson Awards. Afterwards, she was cast as Calypso in Calypso which was a tv adaptation of Mary Wesley’s book of the same title. She played the same character as her mother; her mother played the older version of her character. One of her first notable roles was in Pride and Prejudice where she played Elizabeth Bennet in the BBC 1995 television adaptation. Her role earned her the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress. In the same year, she joined the Royal Shakespeare Company and got her first major feature film role in Paradise Road (1997).

In 2000, Jennifer Ehle made her Broadway debut as Annie in The Real Thing and she won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play. The following year, she appeared again on Broadway in the revival of Design for Living.
In 2005, Jennifer Ehle returned to the London stage participating in The Philadelphia Story at the Old Vic opposite Kevin Spacey. The following year, she played Lady Macbeth as part of the Shakespeare in the Park.
