Jeffry Lurie was born to a Jewish family in Boston, Massachusetts on the 8th of September, 1951. His parents are Nancy and Morris John Lurie (who died on April 14, 1961, at the age of 44 when Jeffry Lurie was only 9 years old). Jeffry Lurie’s maternal grandfather, Philip Smith, is the founder of the General Cinema Movie Theater Chain which is one of the largest operators of drive-in movie theaters in the United States.
In the late 1960s, General Cinema started acquiring bottling franchises, including a Pepsi bottling operation and it continually evolved over the years into Harcourt General Inc. It became a $3.7 billion conglomerate based in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, with 23,700 employees globally. This company became the nation’s fourth-largest chain of movie theaters and it owned several publishing houses, three insurance companies, and a leading global consulting firm.
Jeffry Lurie bagged a B.A. from Clark University, a Master’s degree in psychology from Boston University, and a Doctorate in social policy from The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. In this school, he wrote his thesis on the depiction of women in Hollywood movies. He has also served as an assistant professor of social policy at Boston University.

Career
In 1983, Jeffry Lurie left academia to join General Cinema Corporation which was at the time headed by his uncle, Richard A. Smith. There, he served as an executive in the company as a liaison between the company and the production community in Hollywood. Also, he was an advisor in The General Cinema National Film buying office.
In 1985, Jeffry Lurie founded Chestnut Hill Productions which produced a string of Hollywood films and TV shows. Initially, the company started off with a multi-feature joint venture with Tri-Star Pictures to develop projects, then in 1987, three of the Chestnut Hill projects were picked up by MGM/UA Communications Co. Two were with Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures each, and also, a single picture Chestnut Hill is producing for Universal Pictures. Followed by a majority of the Chestnut Hill Productions would be received by Tri-Star Pictures which then became an independent production company.

The union produced two children; a son, Julian, and a daughter, Milena. Christina Weiss received a partial ownership interest in the Philadelphia Eagles as part of the divorce settlement.
