1. When she won season five of So You Think You Can Dance she received the distinction of being the first contestant of Cuban descent to win the show. She was also the first contestant to win the show at the age of 18.
2. At the age of 3 she started taking dance lessons. She started with flamenco and ballet.
3. In addition to ballet and flamenco, she studied acrobatics, hip-hop, jazz, modern and contemporary dance.
4. At age 11, she began studying theater by appearing in a number of middle school and community productions.
5. When she was in her junior year, she discovered a lump near her left elbow that made it difficult for her to even move her arm and was diagnosed with a cancerous growth. Eventually, she had to undergo two surgeries to take care of the tumor.
