Jean Jacques Beineix
French film director Jean-Jacques Beineix died on January 13, 2022, at the age of 75, according to what his family told Agence France Presse. His brother explained that he died at his house in Paris after a long illness.
Born on October 8, 1946, Parisian Jean-Jacques Beineix studied medicine, but decided to start a career in cinema. He started out as an assistant to established filmmakers like Jean Becker . He began to gain notoriety with Diva , his debut feature, from 1980.
Jean-Jacques Beineix achieved his greatest success with the torrid Betty Blue , which narrated the passion between Betty and Zorg, which leads to disaster when she gradually loses her sanity. Based on a novel by Philippe Djian , it had Jean-Hugues Anglade and Béatrice Dalle as its protagonists . It got an Oscar nomination for best foreign film.
After the film, Hollywood knocked on his door, but he turned down the chance to helm titles like Alien 3 . His subsequent films, such as IP5: L’île aux pachydermes , had a limited impact. He made his debut as a novelist with ” Toboggan”, very much in the vein of Betty Blue, as it had as its protagonist an unbalanced young woman who has a passionate romance with an aspiring writer.
