JC Chandor
Little but good, very good. He does not have a great filmography, only three feature films to his credit, but what three. With just this small number, JC Chandor has caught the attention of Hollywood and promises great success. His hallmarks of him? Jeffrey McDonald Chandor, better known as JC Chandor, was born in New Jersey, United States, on November 24, 1973. Son of Mary and Jeff Chandor, a Merrill Lynch worker. He studied at Wooster College in Ohio where he graduated in 1996. After finishing, he decided to complete his training at New York University in a film program.
For 15 years Chandor made commercials, documentaries, and short films like Despacito . In 2006 his first opportunity came when an Icelandic investor offered to finance what he believed would be his first feature film, but the crisis prevented the project from being carried out. Despite the hard setback, the screenwriter continued trying to achieve his goal that he would achieve thanks to the impulse of the actor Zachary Quinto . Margin Call , his brilliant debut feature, based on his own screenplay, is about the days before the financial crash of 2008. Starring big stars like Kevin Spacey , Jeremy Ironsor Quinto himself, among others, give life to eight executives during the 36 hours prior to the debacle. Presented at the Sundance Film Festival, the box office success was accompanied by its first Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.
His next project, Cuando todo está perdido , opposite to his debut and once again sponsored by Quinto, eludes a large cast to focus on a single protagonist, Robert Redford . The Oscar-winning actor, with nothing to prove, gives us a wonderful performance in which there are barely 5 minutes of dialogue and which earns him a new Golden Globe nomination for best drama actor.
His third film came in 2014, The Most Violent Year . With it, he once again showed that he is a screenwriter who is not afraid of any subject, even if it is part of the black history of his country, as was the case with Margin Call . The plot centers on the company of an immigrant, Abel Morales, in 1981, the year of the greatest wave of violence in New York. Chandor puts Jessica Chastain and Oscar Isaac in the lead roles to show how the American dream can turn into a nightmare. At the same time, he is capable of combining the darkness of the story with a totally different representation from how other films show Latinos, giving a successful version with clear values of these.
In his private life Jeffrey is a family man. Married since 2004 to Mary Cameron, the couple has had two children.
