The former ice hockey player was born on September 27, 1983 in Edmonton, Alberta. He was born as the son of parents Dan and Gena Bouwmeester. Additionally, his father worked as a teacher and coach in Edmonton. Additionally, he played defense for the University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey team. He grew up with his older sister named Jill.
