Jason Frank, Power Rangers star dies at 49

Actor Jason David Frank, best known for starring in the original “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” TV franchise, has died.

Frank’s manager, Justine Hunt, made the announcement on Instagram on Sunday according to BBC who confirmed that the actor died on Saturday in Texas. The actor’s cause of death is not yet known.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers launched in 1993 on Fox Kids and initially aired for three years.

Fans will remember… he started out as the Green Ranger in Season 1, Introduced at first as an enemy of the Power Rangers — only to do a 180 and become good. After his powers start to deteriorate, however, he’s turned into the White Ranger… and tapped as the new leader of the group. Frank starred as one of the leads for 3 seasons, totalling 123 episodes.

Frank’s death comes two decades after that of co-star Thuy Trang, who died aged 27 in 2001 from injuries sustained in a car accident.

Most recently, he filmed “Legend of the White Dragon,” a film that was partially funded with a Kickstarter and included other past “Power Rangers” cast members. Frank was also an avid mixed martial artist.

He was 49 years old.
