Jane Goodall, original name Valerie Jane Morris-Goodall is a British ethologist, researcher, primatologist and anthropologist. She is well recognized for her exceptionally detailed and long-term research on chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania.

She is the founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and the Roots & Shoots program , and she has worked extensively on conservation and animal welfare issues. She has served on the board of the Nonhuman Rights Project since its inception in 1996. In April 2002, she was named a United Nations Messenger of Peace. She is also an honorary member of the World Future Council.

Goodall remained friends with her ex-husband until his death in 2002. Grub spent his early childhood with his parents in the African wilderness before being sent to England to study.

In 2010, van Lawick appeared in the biopic, Jane’s Journey. He spoke of his childhood as the son of Dr. Goodall and the conflicts he had with his mother, who was dedicated to his research. Van Lawick describes the personal cost of his mother’s “obsession” with her work in Jane’s Journey. But in the end, Goodall, Grub and her children present a happy picture. The mother and son duo help each other with their wildlife conservation projects.
