James Redford (born May 5, 1962 – died October 16, 2020) was a documentary filmmaker, environmental activist, and philanthropist from New York City, USA. Also, he was best recognized as the son of Robert Redford.
He rose to fame with his first directorial effort, 2012’s “The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia,” inspired by his son, Dylan, who battled dyslexia in high school, according to the Tribune. He also used to raise awareness about organ donation.
James mainly makes documentaries, usually focusing on the environment and health, and where they played.
On October 16, 2020, the filmmaker passed away at his home in Marin County, California. The reason for his death is bile duct cancer in his liver. He had suffered from liver disease for a long time, almost 30 years.
His previous liver disease had set in two years ago, and the cancer was detected in his bile duct last November while he was awaiting a liver transplant.
He was 58 years old at the time of his death. James’ wife, Kyle Redford, confirmed this sad news of his passing in a Twitter post.
He shared the old photos of happy times and wrote that we are heartbroken that James died today. He lived a beautiful life with his family and was loved by many. Also, he will be sorely missed. Following this news, all fans, family and friends paid tribute to the late filmmaker.
At the time of his death, Kyle said he was finishing a documentary called “Where the Past Begins.” The short film was about ‘The Joy Luck Club’ author Amy Tan for PBS’s ‘American Masters’.
