James Mitchell
More than three decades dedicated the actor James Mitchell to the series All My Children , where he played the patriarch Palmer Cortlandt. The actor – who starred in this endless series between 1979 and 2008 – died in a Los Angeles hospital on Friday, January 22, due to pneumonia that complicated a lung disease that he had suffered for years.
Born on February 29, 1920 in Sacramento (California), James Mitchell began as a dancer. On Broadway he performed mythical musicals such as “Brigadoon” or “The Legend of the Nameless City”, before they began to recruit him as a dancer for the big screen, in titles such as Moonlight in Havana or Husbands are needed . She was given a prominent supporting role by Raoul Walsh in Together Until Death .
With Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse he took part in the famous Broadway Melodies . Fred Zinnemann gave him a role in the adaptation of the musical Oklahoma! (1955) . After numerous TV appearances on shows like Lou Grant , he became a hugely popular face in America playing the ruthless mogul on All My Children .
