The JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede has revealed that there are just about 25,00 spaces for medicine in Nigeria but over 400,00 candidates apply for it.
The Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board, Prof Ishaq Oloyede has lamented the high rate of candidates who put in for Medicine.
He made this disclosure on Sunday during an exclusive interview with Leadership TV to address some questions regarding admission and cut off marks.
The professor while explaining why some students with good JAMB scores may not gain admission stated that some courses like Medicine have a very high number of applicants in the country but limited spaces available.

According to the JAMB Registrar, there are “about 25,000 spaces for medicine in the whole country and the candidates who apply are over 400,00. Even if the cut-off mark is 300, Universities will have more than enough”
Judging by the numbers presented above, it is safe to conclude that it contributes to why students are denied admission yearly.
When asked what is the lowest JAMB Score, Oloyede said “It is ignorance that is making people talk about pass or fail”, pointing that even if you score zero, you can be offered admission if you apply for certain courses.
Although the board has not yet officially released the cut off for this year, he hinted that the JAMB cut off could go as low as 50 marks.
However, JAMB has announced to the public that it would release the official UTME cut off for admission by 31st August 2021.
