Early Life

Murray was born on February 23, 1997, in Kitchener, Ontario. His parents are Sylvia and Roger Murray. Roger moved to Canada from Jamaica when he was nine years old. Murray’s dad loved sports, especially track and field and basketball. When he was young, he even played against Lennox Lewis, a famous boxer from Kitchener.

Murray showed his love for basketball early on. At three years old, he played it for hours. By the time he was six, he was playing with kids much older than him. When he was 12 or 13, he played against high school and college players in pickup games. His dad helped him practice by doing basketball drills and kung fu exercises, including meditation.

In high school, Murray first went to Grand River Collegiate Institute in Kitchener. Then he moved to Orangeville Prep in Ontario, where his dad was an assistant coach. There, he teamed up with Thon Maker and helped Orangeville Prep beat many American schools. He even won the MVP award at the 2013 Jordan Brand Classic International Game and the 2015 Nike Hoop Summit.

Murray was also named MVP of the 2015 BioSteel All-Canadian Basketball Game, which is a game for the best high school players in Canada. He played AAU basketball for the CIA Bounce team.

In college, Murray committed to play for Kentucky’s coach John Calipari in 2015. In his freshman year, he did really well. He played 36 games and scored an average of 20.0 points per game, making him the highest-scoring freshman in Kentucky’s history. After his freshman season, Murray declared for the NBA draft, leaving behind three years of college eligibility.

Denver Nuggets (2016–present) Early Years and First Playoffs: In 2016, Murray joined the Nuggets as the 7th pick in the NBA draft. He impressed in his rookie season and was named Western Conference Rookie of the Month. Murray continued to shine, setting new career highs in points. In 2017, he had a career-high 48 points against the Boston Celtics. The following year, he signed a big contract extension.

Western Conference Finals and NBA Bubble Comebacks (2019–2020): In the 2019-2020 season, Murray had some outstanding performances, including a career-high 50 points in a game. He helped the Nuggets make it to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in a decade, making history by coming back from multiple 3-1 deficits in the playoffs. However, they lost to the Lakers in the end.

ACL Injury and Year Absence (2020–2022): Unfortunately, Murray suffered a torn ACL in April 2021 and missed the entire 2021-22 season. The Nuggets struggled in the playoffs without him.

Return from Injury and First NBA Championship (2022–present): Murray made a remarkable return in October 2022 after being out for 18 months.
