Jae Crowder was born Corey Jae Crowder on July 6, 1990, in Villa Rica, Georgia, United States to mother Helen Thompson and professional basketball player Corey Crowder. He attended Villa Rica High School, where he played starting quarterback for the football team and starting point guard for the basketball team.
Crowder spent most of his summer vacation in Florida, where he trained with his father. He then joined South Georgia Technical College, but transferred to Howard College for his sophomore season. He then transferred to Marquette’s Diedrich College of Communication, where he majored in communication studies.
Jae Crowder’s Career
Jae Crowder led the Raiders to their first NJCAA national tournament appearance in the freshman season. While at Howard, he played for the Howard Hawks and helped the team win its first NJCAA Division I men’s basketball championship. He averaged 18.9 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.4 steals per game.
After Crowder transferred to Marquette University, he selected the Golden Eagles and averaged 11.8 points, 6.8 rebounds in his first season. Crowder then recorded a career-high 29 points and 8 rebounds in a game on January 1, 2011 against the West Virginia Mountaineers.
In the 2011-2012 season, Crowder averaged 17.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Crowder entered the 2012 NBA draft and was selected in the second round of the draft. On July 20, 2012, he signed a two-year contract with no guarantee. In his NBA Summer League and preseason games he averaged 11.4 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 1.6 assists.
